Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge

This beautiful safari lodge is nestled amidst the Virunga volcanoes, near the Volcanoes National Park headquarters. It is one of the oldest community-owned establishments created to conserve gorillas and benefit the community. Sabyinyo Silverback is a perfect getaway for nature and wildlife lovers, thanks to hundreds of nearby tree species, birds, and gorillas which the lodge guests explore.

The lodge is constructed with local Rwandese stone and finished with high-quality colored plaster. The roof is tiled, and the rooms are spacious enough with ambient natural light. Inside the lodge is a lovely reception that directs you to the bar, the washroom, the dining area, the gaming area, and an in-lodge shop. In addition, there is one large family cottage, two suites, and six other cottages, so this lodge is graciously designed to meet the needs of couples and families. Each cottage or suite has a spacious sitting room, an ensuite bathroom, a fireplace, and a veranda. Other notable room facilities include a fridge, heater, microwave, and television.

Sabyinyo Silverback guests enjoy delicious meals on the private deck or in the communal dining area. The lounge caters to all meals, local drinks, and a traditional tea served in the afternoon. The communal dining area and the bar have a deck extension to offer guests a spectacular view of the surrounding forests. Besides, the cottages’ windows are large enough, so you will still have an incredible outside view even when you don’t want to leave your room. The cottage fireplaces and double room walls will keep you warm throughout, increasing your comfort as a guest.

Sabyinyo Silverback lounge is only 2.5 hours from Kigali, Rwanda's capital city. Assuming that you are already at the Volcanoes National Park, you will quickly get to Sabyinyo Silverback lounge in 15 minutes, thanks to the well-constructed tarmac roads. Gorilla trekking

Volcanoes National Park is a well-known natural habitat for gorillas; no wonder Sabyinyo lounge is named after a popular gorilla species, ‘Sabyinyo.’ Gorilla treks occur every day at the national park, starting at 7:30 am. Professional and friendly guides will take you through the treks and explain the various gorillas you come across. Each tour takes a maximum of five hours, depending on the exact location of your visit, and each trek visit comprises eight guests.

Bird watching

The Sabyinyo property is a natural habitat for more than 80 bird species! If you like birds and would like to know more about the species found in this area, a professional guiding service will be there for you to help you explore that. Just ensure that you have good-quality binoculars for the best sightings.

Mountain bike rides

If you enjoy mountain biking, you will have a wonderful time exploring the Sabyinyo wilderness. The lounge has the best quality, well-maintained bikes that guests use for mountain biking.
