Park Overview:

Nyungwe National Park is ancient. It is situated in the southern part of Rwanda. Tourists flock to the destination for chimpanzee trekking. The park was founded in 2004. This is also a bird-watching site accommodating over 300 species. Some of the birds you see here are sporadic in other countries. The flora is thick and makes it hard to spot the raptor.

Which type of animal is in Nyungwe National Park?

The wildlife in the Nyungwe forest is indigenous and diverse. The government continues to enforce measures that conserve nature. In this tremendous scenery, you stand a better chance of seeing all the 13 species of African primates. These include; L’Hoest’s monkey, two Albertine Rift endemics, Hamlyn’s monkey, and a common chimpanzee. He Rwenzori colobus is a large group of 400 monkeys. Endemic to Nyungwe National Park is 16 mammals. In total, there are close to 96 species of animals, 63 of them being bats and rodents. The forest hosts 30 reptiles and amphibians breeds. Impatiens Kagami, Begonia pulcherrima, and Impatiens nyungwensis are the three endemic species in this forest. The forest has faced severe poaching in the past resulting in various key species being lost.

Flora at Nyungwe National Park

There are patches of savannah spreading in the forest. Other vegetation includes bamboo, big trees, and ferns.  The forest has over 1K plant types. Botanists enjoy a phenomenon view. The 140 species are orchids, while 200 are trees. In general, the topography has indigenous animals and plants than in other jungles in the universe. Admire the marvelous sight of 120 butterflies’ species spreading their wings symmetrically, displaying their beautiful colors. You can catch sight of endemic birds and chimpanzees.
