Kruger National Park

EXTRAORDINARY SAFARIS

Park Overview:

Kruger National Park is a renowned safari game reserve located in South Africa. Animal lovers from around the world travel to the park to admire its diverse wildlife. The park covers a vast area and is home to numerous species, including the famous Big Five: lions, buffaloes, crocodiles, rhinos, elephants, and leopards.

Visitors have the option to drive themselves through the park or use the services of experienced game park drivers. Birdwatchers should bring binoculars to enjoy the wide variety of bird species in the area.

Kruger offers various accommodation options, allowing visitors to set up tent camps or stay in luxurious lodges. The park provides an unmatched experience for nature enthusiasts and should be on your bucket list.

Wildlife at Kruger

Kruger National Park stands as one of the world’s premier national parks, celebrated for its extraordinary wildlife. The park offers an impressive diversity and density of animals, home to all of Africa’s iconic safari species along with 137 other mammal species and over 500 bird varieties.

To fully appreciate the splendour of Kruger Park, a visit is essential. The optimal time for wildlife viewing is during the dry months of June to September when vegetation is less dense. Specifically, August and September are ideal, as temperatures are warmer than during mid-winter, and animals tend to congregate around water sources, creating excellent opportunities for game viewing.

Which is the best time to visit Kruger National Park?

Visitors to Kruger Park can enjoy unique experiences depending on the season they choose to visit. The best time for safari tours, particularly for game viewing, is from May to October. During these months, the dry weather and cooler temperatures make wildlife easier to spot as animals congregate around water sources.

For bird enthusiasts, the ideal time to explore the park is during the Green Season, which occurs from November to February. This time of year features hot and humid weather with frequent rainfall, creating lush landscapes that attract a diverse array of bird species. Birdwatchers can delight in the vibrant colors and sounds of migratory birds that flock to the park during these months. Each season offers a distinct perspective on the park’s beauty and wildlife, making every visit memorable.

Park Location

The Kruger National Park is easily accessible from Johannesburg, just a four-hour drive away, and is close to picturesque towns like Graskop, White River, and Pilgrims Rest.

There are daily flights to Kruger Park from Johannesburg to several airports: Skukuza Airport, Phalaborwa Airport, Hoedspruit Airport, and Kruger/Mpumalanga International Airport (KMIA), which is situated between Nelspruit and White River. Skukuza also has daily flights from Cape Town. Additionally, KMIA receives daily flights from both Durban and Cape Town, and there is a flight from Cape Town to Hoedspruit.

The tourist roads within the park are either tarred or well-maintained gravel roads. The speed limits are 50 km/h on tarred roads, 40 km/h on gravel roads, and 20 km/h in rest camps. For optimal safety and the best experience, while game-viewing, it is recommended to maintain an average speed of 30 km/h on tourist roads.
