Makgadikgadi Pans NP and Nxai Pan

EXTRAORDINARY SAFARIS

Overview:

The two pans are the saltiest in the globe. They offer an unforgettable, unique Botswana safari experience. Explore the real African wilderness in the Nxai Pan National Park that covers 2100 km². The baobab island also hosts several faunas.

Geography and climate of the Makgadikgadi and Nxai pans region

The Makgadikgadi Pans are the original remains of the ‘super-lake, ‘which drained due to climatic changes. The name refers to the ‘extensive lifeless land. ‘Astoundingly, some areas of the salty pan are conducive for animals. They are also remote campsites constructed around the National Parks. Animals that survive harsh climatic conditions like gemsbok (oryx) and springbok are available. The predators hunt across the pans. You can also view a good number of elephants and giraffes. At the southeast of Okavango Delta, you will find the Makgadikgadi and the Nxai Pans situated in Botswana’s eastern and central regions. They both occupy a space of over 16000km².

The best time for bird watching and wildlife viewing in Botswana pans is from June to December. At high seasons from July to October, lodgings charge more, although parks don’t get congested. The ideal weather is from May to August. Nonetheless, the weather is conducive from January to March as heavy rainfall and hot climate is experienced.

Flora and Fauna in the Makgadikgadi and Nxai Pans region

Nxai Pans are reputable for catching sight of alluring cheetahs. A wet season, watch the magnificent zebra migration and lions as they walk by majestically. Acacia trees mainly sprout in the cluster. The flora of the Makgadikgadi and the Nxai Pans National Park stands on the mildly and riveting impressive pancake-flat-salt-pan. Most of the landscape is untouched, providing exceptional animal sightings for tourists. At the end of the rainy season the grassland entices animals. The geographical location of the Nxai Pans National park is the main route that the herds of animals use during their migration from the Hwange National park and the Okavango Delta.

The indigenous area for the black-backed jackals, lions, kudus, springboks, giraffes, bat-eared foxes and impalas can be toured all around the year. As the rainfall starts to kick in from December to April, zebras, elephants, and oryx antelopes join the feast. Several kinds of fowls, inclusive of the ostriches, beautify the parks.  The majority of the animals give birth during rainy seasons. The pans are full of life as the offspring are born in March, April, and December.
