Gibbs Farm is located on a charming coffee farm outside Karatu, between Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater. Formal gardens surround the elegant and spacious colonial homestead in the English style. While coffee is still grown, processed, and roasted on the farm, a sizable fruit and vegetable garden provides the freshest ingredients for the healthy, mouthwatering meals guests enjoy.
While the guest quarters, which include a delightful living room, a gift shop, and two dining rooms, are located in the carefully renovated ancient farmhouse, the grounds have cozy and pleasant cottages with private verandas and stone fireplaces.
Guests are encouraged to linger in the little nooks and crevices, and the expansive patio offers panoramic views of the peaceful gardens.
Gibb’s Farm is situated in Karatu, one and a half hours or forty-five minutes by car from Arusha or the Kilimanjaro International Airport, respectively. The property is an hour’s drive from the nearest airport, Manyara, which only handles daytime flights.
Farm Tours and Practical Farm Activities
Guests are invited to explore the gorgeous grounds of the establishment to get a feel for a true functioning farm on the brink of an ancient forest. Learn how to milk a cow, gather berries, or go on a hike to waterfalls and an elephant-made “cave” where they searched for vitamins in the soil.
Village Excursions
It’s easy to feel at home at Gibbs Farm. You can join a Maasai healer from the area for a stroll through the Ngorongoro Forest as they point out the more than 20 medicinal plants employed in the Osero Clinic, the farm’s medical facility.
You can explore the Karutu area on a bicycle or foot and wander over to a nearby hamlet to acquire insight into customary rural and cultural experiences in Tanzania.
Guided Tour of the Ngorongoro Crater Rim
You can reach the crater rim on foot in a full day’s trip from the property because it is near the Ngorongoro Crater.
You can visit the national parks of Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara, and Lake Eyasi. Enjoy a freshly roasted coffee while lounging in lush surroundings overlooking the Great Rift Valley.
Private Spa Services in the Comfort of your Cottage
Indulge yourself with one of the spa’s Maasai-inspired treatments, many of which include local plants and bushes.
Alternatively, have afternoon tea in the garden, on your private balcony, or in the main lodge. We suggest breaking the norm just a little and sipping on some of the farm’s freshly ground Arabica coffee rather than tea.
